John William Turner of Barrie passed away on January 26, 2023 at the age of 75. He was a teacher and administrator for 32 years in the Victoria Harbour, Port McNicol, Penetanguishene, and Midland area. He enjoyed 23 years of retirement as an enthusiastic traveller. He loved meeting new people, learning about different cultures and experiencing new adventures. He would then come home and tell wonderful stories to his friends and his adoring family.

John is survived by his partner Mary Ellen, his son John (Katie), daughter Amanda (Jorge), and his three grandsons whom he loved with all his heart; Brandon, Benjamin, and Brady.

John loved golfing with is buddies at the Midland Golf and Country Club and then later at Vespra Hills here in Barrie. He loved teaching his Grandsons how to play golf, watching their baseball, hockey, soccer, basketball, and volleyball games. He loved rollercoasters, camping, fishing, playing board games, and travelling wherever anyone wanted to go. He was all in and looked forward to a lifetime of adventures. As Brandon said, “Gramps was my best friend!”

He will be dearly missed and loved forever.

Cremation has taken place, with private family arrangements entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie.

A very special thank you to all the team in the ICU at RVH. Each and everyone looked after John’s needs in the most compassionate way
