TRASK, Orma Agnes (nee McLean)

Orma Trask

Our hearts are broken as we announce the passing of Orma Trask on Saturday, Jan. 30th, 2021 in her 91st year.  Daughter of the late Ken and Elva McLean (Jory) of Dalston.  Beloved wife of the late Emmy Trask for 65 years.  Cherished mom of Craig (John), and Debbie (Richard) Rinas.  Devoted Grandma to Kris (Stacey) and Kurtis (Jennie) and Great Grandma to Payton and Avery.  Orma is survived by her Aunt Ilene Caldwell,  sister Shirley (Barry) Norman, and brother Garry (predeceased sister-in-law Marg Whitbread).  Predeceased by her brother Ron (sister-in-law Joyce Woods) and her sister Audrey (brother in-law Walter Carruthers).  She  will be fondly remembered by her many cousins, nieces, nephews and all her very dear close friends.  If we could sum up Mom’s life it would be pretty simple….loved by Dad (inseparable) and totally devoted to her family.  If we had a $1. for every celebration followed by cake, we would be rich lol!  She was all about relationships.  Started out working for Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator, then General Electric’s switchboard operator, then moving over to Molson’s switchboard, and finally Georgian College’s…quite sure Mom (and Dad) knew everyone in town – that would be Barrie back in the day when it was a very tight small community.   There were crinolines hanging in the closet, yes, they were square dancers.  Another very tight group.  After Dad’s passing, Mom showed signs of Alzheimer’s and too many of you are aware of what a horribly long goodbye that is.  Mom is one of the many cherished souls that recently passed in Roberta Place from Covid.  We would like to think that Covid saved her from long suffering with Alzheimer’s.  She was Dad’s Princess and seeing the effects of Alzheimer’s on her was heartbreaking.  She was becoming a shell of  the woman she once was - vibrant, beautiful, meticulous, and always smiling.  A special thank you to all the Roberta Place nurses and PSW’s of HA 4  and staff who loved and cared for mom before and to Dr. Howard and all the angels that came to our rescue during the outbreak.  To everyone, and there have been so many, who have reached out to our family with love, support and prayers,  thank you!  Cremation has taken place and a family celebration of Orma’s life will be held at a later date due to Covid restrictions.  As an expression of sympathy, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Society.  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Barrie.

Orma Trask -    A Final word …….Thank you!!!

Being as we have no “normal” funeral or opportunity to see each of you I felt this was the right time and place to say, “Thank you!”   To the Staff  of HA 4 and management team at Roberta Place my heart aches for you.   You cared for Mom with love and compassion.  You were her family.  And now we are all broken.

I especially want to say thank you to Dr. Howard, Nurse Julie, and Nurse Kelly  and to all the angels that were “parachuted in” to the front lines when it broke.  I am indebted to you, for putting your lives and that of your families on the line.

To all the family, friends and  acquaintances who have reached out to me during this ordeal, thank you for your words of encouragement.    And lastly but not least for sure, thank you to my brothers and sisters in Christ.  Your prayers through all this and the love of Jesus have held me together when I felt like I was going to fall apart from the insanity of it all.

Mom is home with Jesus now.  She is no longer suffering from the disease of Alzheimer’s or the ravages of Covid.  She is at peace….as am I.  God bless.
