George Todd, P.Eng, died in his 72nd year at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie on February 20, 2019.
He is survived by his wife Susan Peacock, his clan of three children, Kathy Ridout (Chris), Joanna and David (Chantal), his step-children Andrea Ryan (Tom), Chris Peacock (Kim) and eleven grandchildren under the age of twelve, Caleigh, Adelaide, Blake, William, Mitchell, George, Maggie, Morley, Henry, Everett and Isla. He is also survived by his eight brothers and sisters, Susan, David, Bill, Elizabeth, Peter, Preston, Mary and Rick and many nieces and nephews.
George was born in Penetanguishene on March 5, 1947. He grew up in a number of communities before graduating from Waterloo in Civil Engineering in 1971 and in 1973 from Western with a Masters in Environmental Engineering.
George’s career took him from the Environment Ministry in London to The Region of York, The City of Vaughan as Works Commissioner and then to Barrie. He retired in 2006 as President and CEO of Barrie Hydro to enjoy wonderful years of travel, kayaking, hiking, golf, consulting and escapes to a ‘get away’ farm house in Tiny Township and then to a cabin on Kawagama. He continued his quiet commitment to volunteer projects and charities to help others and serve his community. George, albeit a creature of habit in other ways, readily embraced change and was open about findings and solutions without jumping to conclusions. He was a searcher of truth in all things.
George’s unwavering devotion and steadfast support to his family, his innate kindness, thoughtful leadership style and positive approach and belief in the goodness of people and the future will define the legacy of this honourable caring man. We will miss him dearly and his teachings by example will forever guide our own life choices.
Friends will be received at ADAMS FUNERAL HOME, 445 St. Vincent St. Barrie (just north of Cundles Rd.) on Tuesday from 6 – 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at 1 o’clock Wednesday, February 27th, 2019 with visitation from 12 p.m.
