Oro-Medonte has lost one of its finest – a beautiful example of a life well-lived. Charles Simpson of Shanty Bay, passed peacefully in his 97th year at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on March 22nd, 2021. Beloved husband of Lena Simpson (nee Bonney) for 75 years -- the Diamond Anniversary. A wonderful father to Myrna Jones (late David), Wayne Simpson (Elaine), Brian Simpson (late Joy), Brenda Hyatt (Elgin), Alberta Goody (Chris), and Glenn Simpson (Michele). Cherished grandfather of Michelle (Mike), the late Kimberly (Darrell), Steve (Yvonne), Kevin (Carolyn), John (Becky), Carol (Troy), Heather (Doug), Lyle (Lindsay), Krista (Dan), Kerry, Trevor (Alyssa), Todd, Keith (Amanda), Crystal (David), Nelson (Robin), Robin, Mark (Erin), Allison (Arthur), Amanda (Doug), Ashley (Ian), and great grandfather of Andrea, Christopher, Justin, Tyler, Michael, Andrew, Luke, Carina, Landry, Grace, Clara, Gavin, Kaylie, Charlie, Olivia, Owen, Brooklyn, Gordon, Lilah, Harper, Makenna, Hunter, Norah, Oriah, Elliot, Paige, Aldrick, Lena, and Grace.

Charlie enjoyed work from an early age, driving a team of horses in Shanty Bay on several farms. In the winter time, he would log bushes and cut ice on Lake Simcoe. After marriage they purchased a farm and milked Holsteins, later founding Chasena Jerseys. His passions were diverse, ranging from hunting, fishing and woodworking, to square dancing and card games. Charles served on the Township council for many years, eventually earning the position of Deputy Reeve. Charlie and Lena were both very involved with the Oro World’s fair and held many positions throughout their tenure. They travelled extensively through the years, but his favorite place was at home maintaining the garden and property. He knew every tree on his property and had a vision for each one. He was a man of few words and, at the same time, a ‘teller of tales’, carefully choosing every word he spoke.

A private family service will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Saturday, April 24th, 2021 at 11 a.m., with livestream available to the public. Interment will follow at the Dalston United Church Cemetery. If desired, donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Oro World’s Fair Building Fund or a charity of choice, and are greatly appreciated by the family. Online memories and condolences may be shared via hte funeral home website.
