Succumbed to metastatic colon cancer at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, surrounded by loved ones. Loved and adored by husband Michael Szalay of Minesing. Cherished mother of James Meger (Amber) of Barrie and Heather Gardiner (Stephen) of Toronto. Devoted “Grammy” to Jaymeson and Jillian Meger and Jeremy Cryer-La Montagne of Barrie. Also loved by sister Jeanette (Greg) Garrett of Crown Hill and brother Ross (Helen) Jermey of Moosehorn, Manitoba. Fondly remembered by half sisters Fran Lunn of Orono and Eleanor McDonald of Orillia. Loving Aunt to Sean Garrett, Shannon (Garrett) Daye and Jennifer, Christopher and William Jermey. Predeceased by parents Kathleen and Delno Jermey of Oro.

Raised on a holstein farm in Oro Township, some of Kay’s fondest memories were riding to their one room school house on Tony the Pony along what is now known as Georgian Drive. Always an active member of her community, she was a founding member and president of Barrie-Huronia Sweet Adeline’s barbershop chorus. She was also Choir Director at Guthrie United Church and founding board member and producer with the Strolling Youth Players. Kay held the position of Director of the Barrie Fair Board for 10 years and was also an active member of the Simcoe County Quilters Guild.

The family would like to sincerely thank all of the staff at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, and Hospice Simcoe for their exemplary care. A special thank you to Dr. Russel, Dr. Shaver, and Dr. Van Walraven, as well as the support staff that came to the house. A celebration of life will be held at Minesing Community Centre, 2347 Ronald Road, Minesing, Ontario on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 2 to 5pm. Donations, if desired, to be made to Simcoe Muskoka Cancer Centre, or the MS Society of Canada. Online condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.steckleygooderham.com
