Catherine Quick (nee Swales) died peacefully on 4 August 2020 of natural causes in Barrie. Catherine lived a full life for 99-1/2 years. She was born in Midland, Ontario 23 January, 1921. Following graduation from Teacher's College, she took a rural teaching position at the Granite Hill School west of Trout Creek in 1940 and later settled in Trout Creek until 2018. Catherine married Russell Quick following the conclusion of WWII and they enjoyed 55 years together until Russell passed in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her 2 brothers (Carlyle and Larry) and her 3 sisters (Elaine (Bernard), Jackie (Reedy), and Arlafay (Burtch)). Catherine and Russell are survived by 6 children- Margaret (Valentic), Larry, Russell, Mary (Ash), John, and Cathie (Lalonde), Catherine's sister-in-law Irma Lee Swales, along with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Catherine was a loving mother and a devoted member of Sacred Heart Parish, Trout Creek, and in November 2019 she received recognition for 80 years of service in the Catholic Women's League (CWL). She was an avid reader, a prolific knitter, a keen birdwatcher and a trusted euchre partner. She moved to Barrie in 2018 to be nearer her family. Visitation will be in Powassan at Paul's Funeral Home, on Wednesday August 12th from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. A private family Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Trout Creek on Thursday August 13th, followed by burial at Sacred Heart cemetery. Following COVID-19 restrictions only the first 40 (or 30% of the church's maximum seating) will be permitted to enter the church.
