After a long and challenging battle with cancer, Marilyn Grace Putman of Barrie, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 6, 2024. Marilyn was 77 years of age.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Wayne Putman; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sophia Putman; daughter, Diana Putman; brother and sister-in-law, George and “CB” Watson; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Andrea Watson; sister Shirley McKay; sister and brother-in-law Carol and Rick Fryer; and many friends and extended family members. Marilyn was predeceased by her father George Watson; mother Mabel Watson; and brother Ron Watson.

Born March 20, 1946 to George and Mabel Watson, Marilyn grew up in an active household with her five siblings Ron, George, Roy, Shirley and Carol as well as her grandmother Grace Agnes Watson in Toronto’s East End. The “Watson clan” enjoyed life in “the Beaches” as well as time “at the cottage” on Georgian Bay.

In her teens, Marilyn met, and then married, her husband of 59 years, Wayne Putman. The young couple initially settled in Toronto but soon expanded their family and moved to Barrie in 1974.

Aside from raising her family, Marilyn worked in accounting/payroll at various organizations in Barrie, until her retirement in 2010 from the Simcoe Muskoka Children’s Aid Society, where she worked for over 20 years.

Marilyn loved spending time with family, friends, and her many dogs and cats. Marilyn cherished travelling, be it an Alaskan cruise, a trip to Asia, or many warm tropical beach “get-aways” with her husband and other couples. When at home, Marilyn loved gardening, completing many home renovation projects with her husband, entertaining family and friends, or simply enjoying quiet time reading a book or watching “her shows”.

Marilyn will be immensely missed.
