Noël, Mathurin (Mat)

Three short weeks after celebrating his 100th Birthday, Dad left us while sleeping peacefully in the early hours of April 22, 2024 at the Royal Victoria Health Sciences Centre in Barrie ON. Missing our Mom, Betty (nee Marsh), he joined her less than 3 months after she passed away in time to celebrate their 73rd anniversary together.

He leaves a huge void in the lives of his sons Randy (Lynn) and Brian, and his daughter Charmaine. Oscar is missing waking “PawPaw” up every morning and sleeping under his chair, and Zora and Scooter will miss visiting him.

He is survived by his sisters Lucienne (Walter) Chemerika of St Catharines, ON, Celestine (Ovide) Guignard of Allardville, NB, and Georgette (Leo) Arseneau of Bathurst NB, and his Brother in Law, Agnez (late Doria) Hall of Tracadie-Sheila NB.

Mon Oncle/Uncle Matt will be missed by countless nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and their families.

Dad will also be missed by the many friends and neighbours and their families that he encountered throughout the last century.

He was predeceased by his parents, Clementine (nee Lanteigne) and Lucien Noël, his siblings who died as children, Méiliore, Maria, and Mary Mai, and the siblings he grew up with, Cécile (late Laurent) Bertin, O’nil (late Victorine), Clara (late Hector) Robichaud, Delima (late Dan) Hall, Emilior (late Alexina), Doria (Agnez) Hall, and Gabriel Noël.

Family and Friends will be received at Legacy Funeral Home (parking and main entrance on Highway 400 side of building) on Monday, April 29, 2024, from 1 p.m. until time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 2 o’clock p.m. Fr. Scott (St. Mary’s Parish, Barrie) officiating. Reception to follow.

If so desired, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society are appreciated.

Many thanks to the dedicated and caring teams in the Emergency Department Green Zone, Surge1, ISU and Specialized Senior Care Units at RVH, especially NP Lindsay Bruer and Dr Kevin Ali. Special thanks to Dr Jaskaran Kang for always being there and for supporting Dad’s cardiac needs, and Dr Don Nixon for ensuring Dad’s remaining vision stayed as clear and strong as any 100 year old could hope for. And to the St Elizabeth Health Care visiting PSW’s who visited daily for the past 6 months, especially Pam, Victoria, Sonja and physiotherapist Cait - we are forever grateful for your assistance in helping Dad stay home as long as it was possible
