Millie Nichols Picture2

Mildred Mae Nichols (née Green, formerly Taylor ) – known by many as Millie or Millie Mom – passed peacefully on March 21, 2021, at the age of 83 ready to reunite with loved ones. She led a colourful, beautiful and sometimes challenging life – showing us all we can do hard things and come out stronger. Family was of the utmost importance to Millie. She was the seventh of eight siblings (predeceased by Allen, Blanche, Wes, George, Grace and survived by Howard and Elgin) and beloved aunt to more than 23. She will be dearly missed by her six children, Mike (Cindy) Taylor, Cameron Taylor, Tim (Gina) Taylor, Cheryl (Tim Ward) Taylor, Brenda (Dan)Lennon, and Bradley (Keith Smith) Taylor, her cherished grandchildren, Kristin, Brian, Christopher, Laura and Nicole, and 5 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous extended family and friends. Millie loved to rehash memories old and new, and was a master storyteller. She delighted in hosting and trying out new recipes, and was a jokester, astute card player, avid reader, thrifty antiquer and garage saler. Those closest to her knew she’d “let you stay up late” if you brushed her hair – a tradition now passed on through generations. She had an infectious laugh, sharp mind, and fierce, independent spirit. We remember her as an advocate, modelling for everyone around her the importance of standing up for your values and beliefs. We also tenderly reflect on how Millie was always ready for anything. She was often made fun of for stockpiling non-perishables but it was she who was prepared when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. And, it was she who courageously guided us through the final weeks of her journey. Millie promised to check in on all of us from time to time, so we won’t say our goodbyes. Instead, we commemorate a life well lived and a woman who taught us so much. A celebration of life will be held at a future date when it’s safe to gather again. In lieu of flowers, donations in Millie’s name can be made to the Hospice Simcoe, Barrie (https://hospicesimcoe.ca/ways-to-donate/).
