MONEY, Reta June of Utopia, ON, passed away peacefully at Matthew’s House Hospice in Alliston, after a long battle with Cancer on Monday, May 17th in her 79th year. June was the cherished wife and best friend of William (Bill) Money for 55 years. June was the loving mother of Janis McNair (Stephen) and predeceased by her son Jason (Catherine). Devoted grandmother to Dawson McNairand Olivia, Abigail and Jacob Money. Special friend of Ava Campbell. June will be fondly remembered by her sister Lynda Urwin of Guelph, her brother Charles Penny (Sharon) of Orillia, her sister-in-law Noreen Evans of Cow Bay, Nova Scotia, Ken Money (Norma) of St. Thomas and Keith (Debbie) of Utopia. June will also be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her many nephews, nieces, relatives and many wonderful friends.

After graduating from Lakeshore Teachers College, June began her teaching career in a one room school with grades one through either at Carlyon, just north of Orillia. Upon the closing of the one room schoolhouse, June was transferred to Uhthoff School where she taught grades one and two. After her marriage to Bill, they moved to Painswick where June got a job teaching grades one and two at Alcona P.S. June later transferred to Sunnybrae P.S. where she taught special education until the arrival of their son Jason in September 1972 and daughter Janis in May 1973. During this period, June found time besides teaching and raising her children to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wilfrid Laurier University.

June discovered she still had some spare time, so she transferred from Goodfellow P.S. (where she taught primary grades and led a primary choir to several Kiwanis Music Festival firsts), to Baxter P.S. so she and Bill could take up farming. After receiving her Master of Education from the University of Toronto, she was promoted to a program consultant with the Simcoe County Board of Education. As well, June taught primary and junior education courses for the Western University, York University and Lakehead University. She was then appointed vice principal at New Lowell P.S. and retired as principal of Tosorontio P.S.

June also served on the Board of Directors for Innisfil Credit Union (Peoples’ and now Pace). She took on the roles of Secretary and Vice-Chair during her ten years on the Board. June and Bill enjoyed their retirement by travelling to Hawaii, Alaska, Italy, Greece, New York, Boston, the Caribbean and places in-between. Cruising was their favourite way to travel where they made many new friends along the way. June was incredibly involved with Christ Church-St. Jude’s Anglican Church in Ivy where she served as a Warden, Lay Reader, Children’s service co-ordinator and Deputy Warden. June was immensely proud to have been honoured by the Anglican Church Diocese of Toronto. This award was to recognize her outstanding service to the church.

Following her retirement, June became interested in quilting. She joined a group called the Jitterbugs and from there made lots of quilts (many for charity), stuffed bears and pillowcase dresses for the shoe boxes filled by church members at Christmas time.

The family wishes to thank Rev. Connie Phillipson, Dr. G. Steffens, Simone and Dawn (St. Elizabeth Healthcare), the wonderful staff of Matthew’s House, and all their friends and neighbours for their support and caring.

At June’s and the family’s request, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at the Steven R. Bridge Funeral Home, Angus, ON on Friday June, 18th 2021 at 1:00pm.
