Nancy Isobel Lougheed (nee Townshend)

July 23, 1939 – October 17, 2022

Nancy passed peacefully in Kingston, Ontario in her 84th year. Loving mother of Hugh (Laura), Kathleen (John) and David (Connie). Proud grandmother of seven boys Jeremy, Donald, Mathew, Andrew, Benjamin, Mitchell, and Joshua, proud step-grandmother of two Jamie and Annika, and thrilled great-grandmother of one, Everett.

Nancy was the youngest of the late Bishop William and Kathleen Townshend’s ten children. She was raised in a house filled with love and all the close ties of siblings that are also best friends. Predeceased by her siblings Eleanor Monture, John, Betty Jean Foster, Mary Friesen, William, James, Robert; In-laws Harold Monture, Ruth Townshend, Bob Foster, Howard Friesen, Betty Townshend and Gordon Ullerick. Survived by sisters Barbara Ullerick, Peggy Utting and sister-in-law Pat Townshend.

In her younger years Nancy was an accomplished athlete in track & field and basketball. Nancy graduated from London Teachers’ College in 1958 and taught elementary school at Knollwood Park. She often spoke of her teaching days and told stories of her teaching experiences. Married in 1961, Nancy raised her children first in London then in 1967 moved to Barrie. She returned to London in 1988 to the warm embrace of her siblings and their families, who unwaveringly stood by her through challenging times.

Mom was a sports fan - loving the Leafs and Blue Jays. She enjoyed NFL football and had an astonishing knowledge of teams and players - often choosing her preferred team in any match-up by the sportsmanship of the quarterbacks. Mom was also known for her sense of humour. On seeing a football game televised recently she told us ‘I have a problem’, and after an appropriate pause, she said it was because she liked both teams.

We will miss being able to call on her unfailing memory of all matters family - never forgetting a birthday, anniversary or family event.

The family would like to thank the staff at Royale Place in Kingston for their cheerful welcome and many kindnesses. A special thank-you to the first responders who showed such compassion.

Visitation will be held at St. John the Divine, 21557 Richmond St., Arva, ON, on Saturday October 22 from 1-2 pm. Funeral service will follow at 2 pm. Interment in St. John’s Cemetery, Arva.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated.
