Jean Alison Lemmon, age 93 of Barrie, Ontario, passed away in her sleep on November 3, 2020.

Jean Lemmon was born in Hamilton and lived a block from Ivor Wynn Stadium. She attended Prince of Wales Public School and King George High School. An excellent student, Jean accelerated and was a teacher at age 17. She first taught near Tillsonburg, Ontario. Jean attended McMaster University and Queen's University, where she met her husband, William Ross Lemmon (teacher, deceased), on the steps of Douglas Library. “He bought me an ice cream cone and would not spring for a double scoop. But I married him anyway.” Jean and Bill were married in June 1952. The result was three sons: Mark, Toronto (Joanne, deceased); Peter, Calgary (Banff); and Paul, Barrie (amazing Sue). Bill took a teaching job at Barrie Central Collegiate because they offered him an extra $100 a year to coach football.

Jean often said, "I never thought I would live in Barrie this long."

Jean volunteered at Central United Church, RVH, Barrie Out of the Cold, Meals on Wheels, and many other worthwhile organizations. Jean was a civic award winner.

In the '70s, Jean went back to school and graduated from York University. She then taught Special Education at Portageview and Andrew Hunter.

Jean's passion was sewing. She made her own dresses and suits until that wasn't practical. Although she made wedding dresses and vestments, her biggest thrill came from making Halloween costumes for her grandsons, Rory (Barney), Craig (Superman), Alex (Barney, The Return), and Geoffrey (Spiderman).

In these challenging times, we would like to thank everyone at Mill Creek Care Centre for making Mill Creek a safe and loving home for her.

Jean also often said, "I don't want to be 100, but I never thought I'd live this long." Jean died in peace.
