Joanne LeBlanc

The community of New Lowell has lost a beloved “mom”, “grandma “and cherished friend. Joanne Marie LeBlanc (nee Mathers) passed away at home at the age of 78.

She was born on the family farm in New Lowell to Fred and Anna Mathers,  who were children of a Vimy Ridge solder and Dutch immigrants.

She lived and devoted her life to contributing to her community.

Joanne thrived when she spent time with children. She volunteered countless hours as a Brownie leader, as co-organiser of the Sunnidale Winterama Snow Queen contest and at her local elementary school, New Lowell Central. Most recently she loved reading with several classes at the school and helping with the Breakfast Program. She worked as the Head Custodian at the school for 28 years. Joanne’s time at the school was not just a job, it was her passion. Virtually every student who passed through the doors either called her mom or grandma. She had a kind, loving and gentle soul and made them all feel special. She especially loved the underdogs and always offered them a listening ear and a big hug. She loved them all and they loved her back.

Joanne was married to the late Wilfred LeBlanc and is survived by her two children: David (Tracey) and Ann Marie (Wayne). She is loved and deeply missed by her three grandchildren: Grace, Blake and Damien, her brother Fred Mathers, her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and her Great Aunt Evie.

She has been happily reunited in heaven with her sister Elizabeth.

A private family service will be held at the  Steven R. Bridge Funeral Home, Angus, on Wednesday, April 7th 2021 at 11:00am. Burial immediately following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Barrie.
