Georges-Etienne Joseph Lafreniere, affectionately known as Ed, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023 at the age of 83 in Barrie, Ontario. He was born on January 20, 1940, in Amos, Quebec. Ed's passing was peaceful, with his family by his side. Their love and support provided him comfort. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, strength, and unwavering bond with those closest to him. His passing marked the end of a remarkable journey filled with love, dedication, and accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife Irene (nee Lincez) of 54 years; son Stephane Lafreniere (Kimberley) and their two daughters, Tayler and Natasha Fish; daughter Kalina Cook (Josh) and their son Carter and daughter Grace.

Ed's sister Laurette Roy (Lafreniere) and brother Louis Lafreniere also survive him. Predeceased by his beloved sisters Marie-Andree Lafreniere and Celine Pearce (Lafreniere).

Ed loved to listen to music, particularly classical music, and thoroughly enjoyed nature whether it be a walk through the woods or a drive through the country side. Ed was an enthusiastic participant of family game nights; though he was known to find "creative" ways of winning when he could.

Most of all, Ed loved spending time with his family. Ed's support for his family, particularly his wife during her own health challenges, was endless and tireless.  He gave everything to them; until he couldn't physically give anymore.

Ed dedicated his career to senior retail management. His commitment and expertise in his field made him a respected figure among his colleagues. Throughout his professional life, he served as an inspiration to many aspiring individuals in the industry. Ed spent over five decades with Sears Canada including time post his “retirement”. Never one to stay home, Ed continued to work until he was 82, joining Rona after Sears finally closed. Ed left Rona in 2022.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 25, 2023 from 12 – 2 p.m. at Legacy Funeral Home 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie (parking and entrance on Highway 400 side of building. Due to construction access to Cedar Pointe Drive will be from Edgehill Drive). Friends and family are invited to join together to remember and celebrate the life of Ed Lafreniere during this gathering.

As we come together to celebrate Ed's life, remember the moments that brought joy and the valuable lessons he imparted. May his legacy serve as a constant reminder to treasure our loved ones and find joy in every precious day.
