Vera Kumpula

Vera passed away peacefully at home in her 92nd year to be with her Saviour on February 18, 2022, while surrounded with love. Vera was born and raised in Prince Edward Island where she met and married a charming Finn named Lauri (Larry) Viljo Kumpula in 1945. Vera, a hairdresser and Larry, a flight engineer in the military, left the Island and had three children, Gloria (predeceased), Allan (predeceased) and Brenda. They had a strong and loving relationship until 1983 when Larry went to be with the Lord while in Vera's arms. Later in life, Vera taught Sunday school and worked for the Red Cross for twenty years caring for many patients who benefitted from her kindness, Christian love and intelligence. Vera's parents were J. Webster Marchbank and Elma Prescilla Marchbank (Sellick). Webster and Elma had five children, Keir, Melvin, Doris, Wilda and the youngest Vera. Vera and Larry have four grandchildren; Karen Kumpula, Cassie Kumpula, Joanna Kumpula, Jay Kumpula and many, many nieces and nephews whom she dearly cherished. Although Vera left Prince Edward Island to experience the many adventures of military life with her husband, a part of the island always remained within her heart. A graveside committal will be held at Grenfel Cemetery (1980 Sunnidale Road, Grenfel) on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at the Barrie Free Methodist Church (284 Cundles Road East, Barrie) at 2:00 p.m. Vera's family would like you to consider placing donations to World Vision Canada, Vera's favourite charity through BASIC FUNERALS & CREMATION CHOICES - JENNETT MEMORIAL CENTRE, 152 Bradford Street, Barrie.
