Passed away peacefully at Mill Creek Care Centre, Barrie on Monday, April 13, 2020 at the age of 71. Beloved husband to Dorothy for 44 years. Cherished father of Andrea Taylor (Brad) and David Koopmans (Laurie). Loved Opa to Hannah, Zachary, Grace, Lukas, Amelia and Chris (Brittany). Dear Great Opa to Spencer and Jeremiah. Dear brother of Elizabeth Koopmans, Walter Koopmans (Madeline), Clara Brouwer (Albert), late Joyce Pypker (Ralph), Ralph Koopmans, Willy Bruinsma (Durk), late Helen Paquet, late Winnie Pypker (Ralph), Ray Koopmans (Linda), and Sid Koopmans (Judy). Special brother-in-law to Jayne Stegeman (Ben), Lisa De Jong and Uultsje De Jong (Margie) and an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Simon was born in Holland an immigrated to Canada at the age of 7 years old. He married the love of his life, Dorothy on May 10, 1975. He started his career at General Motors in 1977. He welcomed his two beautiful children, Andrea and David, in the late 1970’s. His family was his whole world!

Simon was a devoted husband, father and Opa who loved the Lord. In 1992, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s but never let this disease dim his light. Through his 28 year battle, he illuminated perseverance, determination, strength, humour and love.

Simon enjoyed woodworking, 10 pin bowling, sjoelbak, baking, euchre, sweets, all the while being surrounded by his family and friends. He was an avid Montreal Canadians fan who never missed an opportunity to cheer them on.

He will forever be missed by his family, friends and all of those who were touched to have known him.

We want to thank all the staff at Mill Creek Care Centre for their compassionate and loving care over the last 2 years. You embraced him as your own and you all will have a special spot in our hearts!

Due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, an intimate family graveside service will be held at Midhurst Union Cemetery. A celebration of Simon’s life will be held at a later date when we can all be together. Memorial donations to Mill Creek Care Centre would be appreciated.
