Elsie “Louise” Kononuk
January 4, 1938 – January 28, 2023
Louise Kononuk was born on January 4th, 1938, in Owen Sound, Ontario and passed away peacefully on January 28th, 2024, in Barrie, Ontario. Louise was the cherished eldest daughter of Arthur and Elsie Johnston of Toronto. She was the last surviving of her 5 siblings. As a young girl, she spent her formative years in Meaford, Ontario before moving to Toronto, where she eventually met and married William Kononuk on August 1st, 1959.
A loving and devoted mother to Lisa (Steve), a proud grandma to Michael (Danielle) and Melissa (Tyler), and a cherished great-grandmother to Ava.
In addition to her role as a dedicated family matriarch, Louise was an active and caring member of her community. She devoted over 20 years to volunteering at both Royal Victoria Regional Hospital and Simcoe Family Connections. Though family was the cornerstone of her life Louise’s selfless service helped her forge meaningful relationships where her extended family and friends grew by many. enriching the lives of those around her with her warmth and compassion.
Louise leaves behind a legacy of love and community service and will be remembered for her unwavering love, generous heart, and nurturing spirit. She will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be sent to Hospice Simcoe in Louise's honor. This gesture reflects Louise's enduring spirit of generosity and compassion, which she exemplified throughout her life.
