It is with profound sadness yet immense gratitude for a life lived with purpose and passion, that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert Francis Kokron Jr. Bob, aged 70, fought a valiant battle against cancer, displaying unwavering courage and resilience until his final moments. He departed this world surrounded by his loving family on January 26, 2024.

Raised in Denver, Colorado, Bob's innate connection with nature blossomed from an early age, shaping his lifelong passions. He pursued his academic endeavors with fervor, earning a degree in Botany followed by a Master's in Theology, reflecting his deep reverence for both the natural world and spiritual exploration. Fondly known as "the seminarian" for his distinctive attire and unwavering faith, Bob left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.

Bob was a man of diverse interests and boundless curiosity. He embraced life with gusto, indulging in hobbies ranging from mycology and fishing to photography and birdwatching. An avid chess player, he delighted in friendly matches with his family, particularly relishing victories against Félicité’s partner, Matthew. After his diagnosis, Bob spent his time doing the things he loved, spending time with family, eating hot dogs (double onions, pickles, tomatoes & peppers) and visiting his lifelong friends Rick and Kathy in Ohio, where their love of food and cooking allowed him to gain five pounds a visit.

Above all, Bob cherished his family. His devotion to his wife, Marie, and his daughters Miriam and Félicité was unwavering, his love knew no bounds. Amidst his battle with cancer, he found solace in the outpouring of support from former students and colleagues, whose heartfelt tributes and cherished memories brought comfort to his final days. Bob’s laughter, his fondness for "Trailer Park Boys," and his appreciation for scotch and cigars were just a few facets of his vibrant personality that endeared him to all who knew him. Students sent in renditions of Chopin and legends of a kind man with an unforgettable laugh. One thing that all the stories had in common was the way Bob made people feel: heard, understood, accepted, important and intelligent.

Bob was an active member of the Toronto Mycological Society and dedicated his time to volunteering with various organizations, including the Church and the Central north correctional centre community. He believed in creating inclusive spaces where everyone felt welcomed and valued.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Betty and Robert Sr. He is survived by his sisters Karen (Jerry), Betty-Ann (Peter), Clare and brother, Lance (Gisela). He was a beloved son-in-law to Alfred and Marguerite Mullie and a cherished brother-in-law to Claire (Jim), Marc (Elaine), Pierre (Rose), and Louise (Rod). Bob leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, fondly remembered by numerous nephews, nieces, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives he touched in profound ways.

The Kokron family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital, particularly those in the Chemotherapy suite and the dedicated nurses who provided invaluable homecare support, particularly Bobbie, Andrea, and Denise whose support brightened his spirits. Bob’s journey was supported by doctors who approached his care with optimism and compassion. A special thanks to Dr. El Maraghi, Dr Greg Gaffney and Dr Emily Queenan. In his final days, Bob found comfort and solace in the loving care of the staff at Tomkins House in Penetanguishene.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s honor may be made to the Saint-Vincent de Paul Society or Hospice Huronia, organizations close to his heart.

Though Bob’s physical presence may be gone, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him. May he rest in eternal peace, his laughter echoing through the cherished memories of the lives he touched.

In honoring Bob’s wishes, a casual dress code is encouraged for his funeral mass, reflecting his laid-back and accepting nature. Following the mass, a light lunch will be held in the church hall.
He leaves behind cherished memories as a devoted husband, father, teacher, and friend.

Mass will be held at St. Margaret’s Parish in Midland at 11 o’clock, February 3rd 2024.
