November 28, 1932 – February 4, 2024
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Berthe Hoffman (Libby, née Armitage) on February 4, 2024 at the age of 91.
Predeceased by her husband (Andrew "Red"), daughter (Patricia) and daughter-in-law (Linda) as well as granddaughter (Sara), parents Mary and Robson and her brother Arthur (Billy).
She leaves to mourn her children Michelle, Andrew, David, and Terry (Samantha), along with her 7 grandchildren: Heather, Ian, Matt, Monica, Anna-Lee, Jaxon, and Julia, and brother Linder and sister Wendy.
Libby's life can best be summed up as both full and vibrant.
She danced professionally for the Halifax ballet, carrying a love for creative expression throughout her life. Weaving became her next passion and pieces were auctioned at MacLaren Art Centre. After taking a break from the workforce to marry and raise children, she jumped right into her grandkids' lives - from sports and dance recitals to world travels and driving lessons.
Libby was a fierce advocate of bringing good to the world. Throughout her life, she supported Save the Children, opened her home to travelers from church, was a Red Cross home care provider, and sponsored a father from Ethiopia to immigrate - forming a long-lasting friendship.
As part of enjoying retirement, Libby graduated from Laurier University and went on to pursue a certificate from U of T in Community Healing and Peace Building. She then traveled to the Philippines to share her knowledge and passion for weaving with local entrepreneurial women.
With her welcoming nature and easy smile, she had many friends and meant so much to them all. Always the caregiver, she happily organized family holiday gatherings with everyone's favourite comfort food - from turkey dinner to chocolates and carrot pudding. Amidst it all, her love for gardening flourished and she taught those around her.
Libby had health challenges later in her life which she faced head on with courage & strength. We thank the friends and staff at Mulcaster Mews for the care & support provided. She passed as she lived, in quiet peace with the love and respect from many.
She will be greatly missed and remembered with love. Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
