Hirons, John (Jack) Earl

April 10, 1931 – March 1, 2022

A good and decent man has left us peacefully after a long journey bravely fought. Jack passed on March 1, 2022 at his home, Wasaga Beach, Ontario, with his beloved wife of 61 years and family by his side. Profoundly missed by his wife Mary (neé Ellis) and his loved and beloved children, Joanne (Andy) and Lori. Cherished grandfather of Nicole (Will), Kevin (Gloria), Sean (Eisha), Shannon (Jonathan) and Jessica. Great grandfather of Claire and Jack (Antonellis). Predeceased by his brother, Allan, and parents Irene and Earl Hirons.

Born in Burlington in 1931, his fathers well-drilling business led the family to settle in Ivy in 1942. Aiming to be a pilot, Jack joined the Air force but after a year and a half received an honourable discharge in 1952, returning to Ivy. Joining a survey crew with the Ontario Department of Highways led to an opportunity at Highway Headquarters in Toronto in concrete analysis where he became a Laboratory Operations Supervisor – retiring in 1988.

Jack’s love of landscaping led him to volunteering at Billy Bishop Museum (Owen Sound) and Simcoe County Museum (Barrie). Jack was a member of the Scarborough Lodge No. 653-AF and AM, GRC, and affiliated with the Corinthian Lodge in Barrie.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie, on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 4pm – 7pm. Memorial Service on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 1pm at Grace United Church, 350 Grove Street East, Barrie; Visitation 1 hour prior. Interment to follow in the Spring. Memorial donations to Grace United Church or a charity of your choice.

Special thanks to Dr. S. Springle, Saint Elizabeth Staff and all the PSW’s that provided excellent care to Jack.Online condolences and memories may be left at www.steckleygooderham.com
