Dorothy Haughton, passed peacefully at Serenity Retirement home on March 12th, in her 95th year. Loving companion of John Lucking for over 24 years, wife of the late Alfred John Haughton.

Daughter of the late John and Phyllis Mitchinson, pre-deceased by her older sister Mary Brett (late Harold), by her younger brother Jack Mitchinson (late Sally) and surviving younger sister Barbara Tyrell (late Jack).

Loving mother of Deborah Louise Wade (Glenn), John Andrew Haughton (Shelley), a set of twins deceased shortly after birth, and the late Patricia Ann Holt.

Will be missed by her grandchildren, Brigitte Jenkins (Chris), Timothy Wade, Nathon Wade, Mansel Haughton, Ryan Holt (Kyla) and Rachel Simon Holt (Justin) along with 7 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy came to Barrie in the early 40’s when her father John started the General Electric plant. She attended BDCI before starting a career with Reeves Jewellers. She became a stay-at-home mom for many years. Later, she re-entered the work force with TD Bank, Hay’s Travel, LeBeouf Jewellers and Barrie Manor.

Dorothy was an honorary member of the Barrie Yacht Club (she and her late husband were founding members), she served on the Ladies Auxiliary at BYC and at Trinity Anglican Church. Dorothy was an active volunteer, serving with Red Cross, the Gryphon Theatre, Meals on Wheels and Chancel Guild at Trinity. She also volunteered when need was there for her children’s activities. Dorothy was a long-time member of Trinity Anglican Church and had a deep religious faith.

A service of celebration will take place at Trinity Anglican Church (24 Collier Street, Barrie) on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11 AM, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Private family interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Churchill at a later date.

Special thanks to Dr. Lia, and the staff at Serenity Retirement Residences who cared, supported and loved Dorothy during her residency there and in her last days.

Per Dorothy’s wishes, donations can be made to Trinity Anglican Church, Simcoe Muskoka Family Services or to a charity of your choice.

“There is a place in my heart, that is yours alone, a part of my life that no one else can own. Tears in my eyes will wipe away, but the love in my heart is there to stay. Now you are peacefully sleeping away from all your pain, but the love in our hearts will always remain.”
