February 5, 1934 - February 1, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce that Dave passed away suddenly, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, February 1, at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario, just 4 days shy of his 90th birthday.

He was the cherished husband of 64 years to Margaret; loving father of Steven and Cindy; proud and adoring grandfather of Spencer, Curtis (Jenna) and Sonja (Jordan). David was predeceased by his beloved son Jeffrey.  Also predeceasing him are his parents Oscar and Lyla as well as his siblings Harold, Herman, Victor, Jack, Mary and Aubrey.

He is fondly remembered by his brother Robert (Margie), sister Ella (Peter) as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law, and dear friends.

Dave was a devoted family man who worked hard for his family and always put their needs before his own.  Born in Raynardton, just outside of Yarmouth, Dave was a proud Nova Scotian. He took care to instill in his children and grandchildren a sense of the importance of their heritage and of family.  He and Marg made many road trips home to the East Coast over the years with the kids, pets and sometimes even the inlaws in tow.  The stops for gas and food on those trips were often long because Dave had the ability and inclination to strike up a conversation with anyone wherever he was.

He will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind-hearted, compassionate man with a great sense of humour. His big smile, twinkle in his eyes and low chuckle was infectious.

Dave was a great cook and everyone especially loved his soups, muffins, lemon loaf and chocolate cake. He continued to research and try new recipes well into his late 80’s. Dave loved to golf, fish and garden. His amazing annual crop of tomatoes was well known in his neighbourhood. He was a loyal Leafs and Blue Jays fan. Dave’s patience, calm demeanor and loving kindness will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

In keeping with Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Donations may be made to The

Humane Society or the charity of your choice in Dave’s memory for those who wish.
