Our beloved sister, aunt, great aunt, pranny, big-sister and friend, Jane Hamel passed away with her family by her side on September 15, 2022 at the age of 66 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 46 years, Lloyd Hamel; sisters: Denise Marchand (JP), Paulette D'Avignon (Ted), Cathy Sheridan and little-sister Maren Brandsma (Eric); brother: Guy Hemphill (Mary-Lou); nieces and nephews: Kristina Kirchoff (Don), Brandy Barrett (Kevin), Anthony D'Avignon, Megan Sheridan (Shan Fritz), Morgan Sheridan, Jessica Hemphill and Justin Hemphill; grandchildren: Keanna Klein (Cameron), Noah Brandsma (Hannah); fur baby: Jingles; great nieces and nephews and many other friends and relatives.

She was predeceased by brother Daniel (Danny) Hemphill, and parents Lloyd Hemphill and Estelle Davey.

Jane was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.  As a child, most of her time was spent in Ottawa, as her father was in the military.  Eventually, Jane settled in Barrie where she met her husband Lloyd. On a snowy New Years Eve 1976, Jane and Lloyd were married and spent 46 years together.  For those who knew Jane and Lloyd, their unending love and devotion to each other is something out of a storybook.

Jane eventually became an ambulance dispatcher with 911 and had a long and dedicated career with them.  Jane was exceptional at her job; being nominated and receiving many awards for excellence throughout her career.  Jane's steady disposition, kindness and compassion made her a fixture at 911 and she'll always be affectionately known as "Smokin' Jane" by her many friends there.

Jane will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, humour, smile but most of all for the love and happiness she gave so many people in her life.  Jane was truly someone who would light up a room when she entered and had a wonderful ability to make everyone she met feel special.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Adam's Funeral Home (445 St. Vincent St., Barrie) on Monday, September 19th 2022 at 2pm, with a visitation starting at 1pm.  Following the service, a reception will be held from 3-5pm.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Jane Hamel's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff in the ICU at RVH for your caring and compassion for Jane and for her family.
