Agnes Headshot

May 2, 1932 to March 6, 2022

Agnes (“Gussie”) Lenore Hall passed away at Royal Victoria Regional Health Care Centre in Barrie on March 6, 2022 at the age of 89, just two months short of being able to celebrate her 90th Birthday.
Gussie was born in Punnichy, Sask. in 1932 to Michael and Elizabeth Benko (Horvath).  She was one of 9 siblings, including Max, Frank, Gabe, Julian, Gordon, Margaret, Helen and Irene.  She is survived by her brothers Gordon and Frank and sisters Irene and Helen.
Gussie met Greg Hall at a bus stop in Regina, which began their 66 year long love affair.  They were were married on August 17, 1954 and their 3 children, Warren (Val), Joanne (Jamie) and Bruce (Anne Elise) were all born in Regina.
In 1993, they moved to Barrie and lived on Sunnidale Road across from the Park.  It was a very happy time in their life.  They were often found in the park with their grandchildren Kelly (Joanne and the late John) and Owen and Gwyneth (Bruce and Anne Elise)
In 2004, Greg and Gussie down-sized and moved to the Roxborough condominium and enjoyed a new lifestyle in Downtown Barrie near City Hall, the library, the waterfront, parks, activities and their favourite shops and restaurants.
Greg’s passing in 2018 was difficult as they had been best friends, side by side for 66 years.  In 2020, Gussie moved into the Whispering Pines Retirement Home and continued to make new friends.
Gussie indulged in many passions over her life, including painting, reading, watching golf, tennis and listening to music, especially Johnny Reid.  She was well-read and able to easily complete difficult crossword puzzles.  Playing Scrabble against her could be most humbling.
It is fair to say that Gussie spent much of her life focused on making others feel good and comfortable with her kind and generous spirit.  Not a day would go by that she didn’t pick up the phone to call someone just to say hi or to check in.  We will all miss those calls!
A celebration of Gussie’s life will take place later in the Spring.  No flowers at this time please, your condolences, wishes and stories are of greater comfort to us.  If you wish, humanitarian donations to help the Ukranian people would be welcomed as Gussie was concerned for their current plight.
