Emery, Grace Mary Pearl

Passed peacefully in her sleep, at the age of 101.  Grace, born in Karachi, India (Pakistan) 1919, is the eldest of the Mullins family and is survived by her sisters, Doreen Seston, Theresa Whyte, Eileen Nichau and Brother Joseph, and in-laws, Angela Mullins, Mervyn Johnson.  Grace is predeceased by her husband Robert Emery, parents, Patrick and Anne Mullins (Simoens) and brothers Louis, Stanley, John, Donald, sister Joan and her first brother John who died in India in 1930’s and many sister/brother-in-laws and dear nephew Gordon Mullins.  She is also pre-deceased by her only son, who died at birth.  Auntie Grace, will be lovingly and gratefully, remembered by her niece Anita and husband Doug Reynolds, of whom she is a second mother.  She will be missed by 3 generations of nieces and nephews of both the, Mullins and Nanavati families. We are thankful for her dear friends and family from Pointe-au-Baril, friends from Holy Spirit Church and cousins Susan Banks of Melbourne and Gilbert Heiniger and our many friends and relatives who have expressed concern during these difficult weeks.

Grace had a full and eventful life, having seen much of the world.  She was a WAC in the Allied forces WWII, and awarded 2 war medals.  She was proficient in morse code and Shorthand and worked as an executive secretary.  She immigrated to Canada in the 1958, to be with her family. She met and married Robert Emery in 1966 and moved to her beloved Pointe-au-Baril, where her new role was bookkeeping for Bob’s business and cooking and baking for all of us on our visits north!  Grace endured many hardships in life, but her unwavering faith always persevered.  She never complained about her problems only taking the best from life.

A personal note of thanks from Grace’s niece Anita Reynolds:

I would like to thank my children, my sister Bonita and family, Grace sister Eileen, who all helped me with her care. We appreciate all those who visited over the years. This was all so important contributing to Grace’s quality of life.

Our gratitude and thanks, to Dr. Howard and the caring nurse practitioners from RVH, who assisted at Roberta Place.  A special heartfelt thanks to the loving and caring staff of Roberta Place Long Term Care, who I trusted to give her the love and care I couldn’t in these last days and during her 17 years at the home, for this I am grateful. Whether you were bathing, mopping rooms, playing bingo or administering meds, your kindness, concern and care are all important to our families. During the outbreak Grace tested positive for the covid-19 virus, she was able to get through the initial symptoms but it took its toll.  Grace has gone to her home in the garden. I was able to be with her on her last day.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie, with a private family service to be held at St. John Vianney Parish, Barrie on Monday, March 1st, 2021 at 11 a.m.  Public livestream is available via http://www.stjohnvianney.ca/livestream.html.  Interment to follow in the Spring at Holy Cross Catholic cemetery, Thornhill.

If desired, donations in Grace's memory may be made to the Pointe-Au-Baril Nursing Station, PO Box 82, Pointe-au-Baril P0G 1K0 (705-366-2376), and are greatly appreciated by the family.
