November 17th, 1941 – May 24th, 2021
Passed away at her home in Barrie in her 80th year, surrounded by her family on Monday, May 24th, 2021, after several courageous battles with cancer. Beloved wife of 53 years to Martin Colliver. Dear mother to her sons Robin and Mark & his wife Yvonne. Loving Grandma of Brian and Teresa. Survived by her sisters Janice and Wendy. Pamela will be missed by her family in Canada, and by her extended family in both Venezuela & England. She will also be missed by her bridesmaid Heather and her son's friends of whom she was regarded as a second mother to.
Pamela was born during wartime to Jack & Doris Hayes in Rayleigh, England. One of four siblings. She found the one love of her life and wed Martin Colliver in the spring of 1963. They then immigrated to Montreal, Canada shortly after when Martin was offered an engineering job at Pratt & Whitney aircraft. Pamela’s career spanned two continents; working on the family farm and at Bata shoes in England, and then as a telex operator at Pratt & Whitney aircraft in Quebec. Later, she worked at the Cassie Populaire bank and also at the Mount Bruno Elementary School.
Pamela was active in local sports in Quebec; she was a bowling league player, participated in aerobics and was an assistant coach to the Saint Bruno Barons Cheerleaders helping them to win their provincial championship in 1985.
In 1998, having already raised a family, Pamela moved to Barrie when a better job opportunity in Ontario presented itself to her husband. Once in Barrie, she was able to concentrate on her other passions such as gardening, reading detective fiction, and looking after her pets. She was a firm believer in contributing to the WWF to protect animals. With her husband’s early retirement, they began a series of trips to Hawaii, Florida and the Greater Antilles, taking time to sample what life had to offer.
In 2015, her husband Martin became ill and she supported him through to a dignified death in 2016. Following Martin’s death, she continued to persevere through other difficulties, including the pandemic in order to continue to establish the family legacy.
Cremation has already taken place. Due to Covid restrictions, there will not be a memorial service, although a private gathering may be held in her remembrance at a later date.
The family wishes to thank all of the Bayshore nurses and Care Partners who took care of Pamela in her time of need.
