August 8, 1966 - April 8, 2024

It’s with great sadness to share that Darrin passed away peacefully this morning at home in Maberly Ontario after a brief battle with cancer. Darrin was surrounded by his family and his dog Buddy.

Darrin was predeceased by his mom Sandra and survived by his dad Terry, Brother Chris (Sarah, Katie, Andrew, Kai, Mimi) Daughter Allyson (Jason, Sophia), Son Mitchell.

Darrin was born in Barrie in 1966 at the RVH. Darrin excelled at sports from a young age with focus on both hockey and lacrosse. In public school he even got the vocal lead in the school musical in South Porcupine.

In his late teens he found a passion for motorcycles and his Harley was his love for many years.

His biker days transitioned into tennis, golf and a deep love for wilderness and a care for the environment that led him to living off the grid with his Dad.

After witnessing a traumatic event as a teenager, Darrin battled PTSD his whole life, and it seemed to grow more difficult with time. This led to him spending as much time as he could in solitude in the forest.

Darrin was diagnosed in December with cancer and over the last few months he spent quality time with Allyson and Mitchell and was able to appreciate the great people they have grown up to be. He was thankful that Allyson gave him a beautiful granddaughter.

Hopefully his life long anguish of being a Toronto Maple Leaf Fan will be recognized this spring with Joe Bowen calling a Stanley victory.

We want to thank John from Rideau Community Health services who provided Darrin with counsel and friendship.

We want to thank Leslie and the team from Bayshore Home Care Solutions for great care and support to Darrin and Terry over the last few months.

Special thanks to Dr. Kushnaad who helped navigate the worst possible decision with compassion and dignity.

Special love from Poppy to Mitchell who used his nursing experience to take the lead in administering comfort , when the nurses were not able, allowing Darrin to spend his last days close to family in his home.

Donations to the Cancer Society can be made in Darrin’s  name.

A celebration of life will be held at 9 Annwood Copse, Shanty Bay Ontario on April 27th, 2024 from 1:30 to 5:00pm. Email [email protected] for more information.
