Celebration of Life: SZELER, Ronald 'Rocket'

SZELER, RONALD known in the Barrie community as “ROCKET”, the family is saddened to announce his passing on February 6, 2024, at the age of 68.

ROCKET is survived by his brothers and sisters, Pat, Matt, Frank, Micheal, Peter, Adam, Marlene, Paul and Tim. He is predeceased by his twin brother Richard, who passed away on February 7, 2011. ROCKET and Richard's lives were a challenge from the day they were born and they chose the path less travelled for the rest of their lives. They finally are at peace together.

ROCKET volunteered at the Salvation Army's Barrie Mission Centre. The major highlight of his life occurred in the year 2000 when Rocket was a member of his brother Adam's “Mad Mechanic” Funny Car racing team. The team won the 2000 World Funny Car Championship, in Shreveport, Louisiana and were featured on the TNN network.

The family wish to thank the following people and organizations, your caring for ROCKET will always be remembered: Long time friend Kelly, Dr. Toni, RVH, the staff at Lucy's Place and the very caring staff at Adams Funeral Home.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Friday May 3, 2024, at Adams Funeral Home (445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie) with interment to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery (208 Sunnidale Road, Barrie).
