It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Celinda Gloria de Canas (nee Hernandez). Celinda passed away surrounded by her family, at Sunnybrook Hospital, on April 18, 2021. Beloved wife of Francisco Edgar and loving mother of Maricela (Roy), Edgardo, and Tania (Brian). Proud "abuelita" of Grace Marie Lucia. She will be deeply missed by her brother, her two sisters, extended family and friends.

Celinda was born and raised in El Salvador. she was highly educated. She graduated from the Santa Ines School as a Primary school teacher, from the Normal Superior Teachers School as a Secondary School teacher, and she studied law in university. Celinda became a notary, lawyer and a judge. She was a cofounder of the Don Bosco University of El Salvador. In her later years she became a diplomat and worked as the Vice-Consul of El Salvador in New York City. Celinda came to Canada with her family in 1985.

She was a strong minded, driven and hardworking woman, who achieved most of her goals and dreams. She worked hard to become somebody in life, to make a difference, and to leave a legacy she could be proud of. She believed women should have the opportunity for education, for advancement, for health and for a happier life.

Celinda had a big and caring heart, she always went out of her way try to help others. She was a wonderful person who loved dearly and unconditionally.

She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

 

A private Mass will be held at St. Mary's Parish, Barrie on Friday, April 23rd, 2021 at 1 p.m., with livestream available to the public via: https://stmarysba.archtoronto.org/
