Robert (Bob) Burns passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Spencer House in Orillia on Saturday April 20, 2024 at the age of 85.

Beloved husband of Pauline Burns. Loving father of Catherine (Charles) Robertson, Sara (Jeffrey) Kennedy, Robbie Burns, Alison (Rene) Burns. Loved grandfather of Hayley, Max, David, Robert, Keshi, Jacob and Jessie. Dear brother of Sharon (David) Farrish and Charles (Iris) Burns. Cherished uncle of Stacey (John) Vanderwerff, Darryl Farrish, Darcy (Cindy) and Justin (Jennifer). Will be sadly missed by his former daughter-in-law Katerina Burns.

After graduating from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Business Administration Degree, Bob moved to Orillia to begin his 30 years in the field of Education. In addition to being a beloved teacher, Bob advanced to become Business and Commerce Director at the newly built Twin Lakes Secondary School. Among his many accomplishments, he chaired the Business Directors Association, helped create a Benefit Plan for the Simcoe County Secondary School teachers and due to his high standard of service to OSSTF, the Provincial Executive Council awarded him the SGB Robinson Memorial Award.

Bob was extremely community oriented which was evident by his work with the Twin Lakes Conservation Club, the Rotary Club, the Champlain Seniors Service Club, and the Leacock Society. In addition, his stage manager skills “par excellence” and dedication to the Theatre Arts culminated with his induction into the Mariposa Arts Theatre Hall of Fame as well as the Presidents Award from the Ontario Association of Community Theatres. Bob had a love of music and enjoyed performing and competing with the Barrie County Chordsman Barbershop chorus.

Although Bob contributed so much to his community, Bob was at heart a devoted family man and was happiest when spending time with his loved ones.

Bob had a gentle soul, a kind heart and a great sense of humour. We love him dearly and he will be forever missed.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Carson Funeral Home Doolittle Chapel on Wednesday April 24, 2024 from 4–7 P.M. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. James’ Anglican Church, 58 Peter St. N., Orillia on Thursday April 25, 2024 at 11 A.M.

If desired, memorial donations to St. James’ Anglican Church or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
