It is with a warm and heavy heart that we announce the passing of our family Matriarch, Doris Jane Burleigh (formerly Armstrong, nee Elliott). Peacefully at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, ON, on the morning of Sunday, May 22nd 2022 in her 89th year.

Predeceased by her husband Donald, her eldest son Jim Armstrong, and her siblings Bob, Jim and Pat. Doris is survived by her children Donald Burleigh, Diana Cameron (Craig) and Donna Lemoine (Mike). Also survived by grandchildren, Jason Armstrong (Jessica), David Armstrong (Abby), Donald Burleigh (Sara), Scott Cameron, Lisa Burleigh, Ashley Cameron, and Brandon Whalen, as well as 15 great-grandchildren and her canine companion Jack.

A lifelong knowledge provider to her family and friends, Doris possessed the warmest heart and extended the kindest words. Always willing to lend an ear and share her perspective, she was the epitome of what her family members strive to be as human beings. Quick-witted from her first day until her last, she had the uncanny ability to put people at ease with her calming demeanour; explaining things with a perspective that made you reconsider your attitude and opinion.

Those that were lucky enough to know her realize that her family now has a void, but through the love and conviction she bestowed unto us, we recognize it is inside each of us to carry forward and share her life lessons and dreams. We are better people for having had the privilege of her guidance in our lives. With her spirit inside of us, we are bound to be genuine and earnest people that must give love and happiness back to the world. We understand that we must be true. We understand that we must be ourselves. We understand that we are to love with our whole hearts. We understand that it’s okay to be sad. We understand that it’s okay to laugh at ourselves. We understand that it’s okay to make mistakes. We understand that nobody is perfect. We understand that a life without pain is a life unfulfilled. We understand that giving our time is nothing to be taken lightly, because we appreciate that time is precious. We understand all of these things because she showed them to us, and we are better people because she gave us her time.

At Doris’s and the family’s request, cremation has taken place, and no service will take place. In lieu of flowers or donations, Doris’ family asks that you convey a selfless act of kindness.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to
