BOURGET, Phillip G.

Posted

Bourget
It is with great sadness that we announce that Phil has reunited with his parents in Heaven in the early hours of Thursday, March 18, 2021. Phil was predeceased by his parents Doreen & George Bourget. He is survived and greatly missed by his partner in life Chris (and their fur babies Ella, Jamara & Norbu), his sister Marian Lewis (Raymond) and sister Monique Tooth (Glenn). Many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive him: Charlotte Taylor (Darren), Paige & Justin; Carson Stefanson (Carly); Mitchell Lewis; Amanda Lewis. Kali; Skylar (Ryan) Jack & Reid; Stanzie (Keith), Winston; Morgan (Dan), Zef; Sarah; Samantha. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and spread across the country also survive Phil. Phil spoke fondly and often of his many friends and colleagues.
Phil started his lengthy career in Social Work but realized his passion was nursing. He graduated from the St. Boniface School of Nursing and began his career in Winnipeg but it wasn’t long before he moved to Vancouver, BC. After a few years he headed east to Toronto and spent many years working mostly in Intensive Care. Phil continued his education in Nursing, first obtaining his Bachelor of Nursing then his Masters. He began teaching at Humber College, then Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario where he spent 18 years. He was also a member of Patients for Patient Safety, worked  with Trillium Gift of Life and as a Legal Nurse Consultant, and has both edited and authored chapters for Nursing textbooks. Phil was accomplished and well respected in his field.
Whenever he could, Phil loved to escape to the family cottage at Victoria Beach in Manitoba. He never missed a summer there and loved all the chaos that family brings. His presence is going to be deeply missed. Even though he lived in another province Phil was always very present in all of our (Manitoba) lives.
The families wish to express their gratitude to RVH, to the doctors, nurses, Palliative Care team, EMS, and the many others who cared for him in our time of need.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Royal Victoria Cancer Center. In recognition of Phil’s outreach work in the Dominical Republic through Georgian College, donations can also be made in memory of Phil by sending a Canadian cheque to:
The Religious Hospitaliers of St. Joseph
225 Pine Ave, West
Montreal, Quebec, H2W 1R5.
The envelope should be addressed to Sister Marie Claire Bourbonnais, RHSJ. Indicate the donation is in memory of Phil Bourget and is to be given to Sister Teofila for her community work in the Dominican Republic.  Please indicate if you require a tax receipt.
Cremation has taken place through the Marshall W. Driver Cremation & Burial Service, Barrie, Ont and a celebration of life will be held at a later date due to COVID restrictions.
