Nov. 29, 1956 - Jan. 30, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rick Boorman, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Rick was born on Nov. 29, 1956, in Barrie, Ontario, to Jim and Grace Boorman. He peacefully left this world on Jan. 30 in his hometown, surrounded by love and the memories he cherished.

Rick was preceded in death by his brother, Reg Boorman, as well as his parents, Jim and Grace Boorman. Although their absence leaves a void in our lives, their spirits will forever remain in our hearts.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Romy Boorman. They were soulmates who embarked on a beautiful journey together since high school and sealed their commitment in marriage on Sept. 9, 1978. Romy was by Rick's side until the very end, holding him tight with unwavering devotion.

Together, Rick and Romy raised a daughter, Katelyn Ball, who became the pride and joy of their lives. Katelyn married Jeff Ball, and they blessed Rick and Romy with three beautiful grandchildren, Marcus, Mitchell, and Kenzie Ball. Rick adored his grandchildren and embraced the role of a doting Pa with immense love and tenderness.

Rick was a compassionate brother to George Boorman, who was always there to support him alongside his wife, Cheryl. He was also a loving brother to Beverly Gomez. Rick's presence will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, whose lives he touched deeply.

Throughout his life, Rick's dedication and hard work were evident in his employment history. He served the government for 25 years before pursuing a career as a land surveyor, a profession he thrived in for many years. Even in semi-retirement, Rick continued to work at High Crest Auto and FedEx in Barrie, always maintaining a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rick's true passion lay in his involvement within the community. He was a constant presence at his daughter's sporting events, passionately coaching her soccer teams for many years. Rick's commitment to fostering the love of sports extended beyond his own family, as he selflessly helped numerous young boys, girls, and later young women enjoy the beautiful game of soccer.

Rick possessed an unwavering love for his family, and he would have done anything for them at a moment's notice. His daughter's sporting endeavours held a special place in his heart, and he devoted countless hours to coaching and providing guidance. Katelyn would not have achieved what she did without her father's wisdom, coaching, and unwavering support. Rick was always there to offer advice, lend a listening ear, or share words of encouragement to anyone who needed it.

The Boorman family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals who provided exceptional care to Rick during his final days at Royal Victoria Hospital. Your compassion and dedication will never be forgotten.

In honouring Rick's spirit and his love for children and animals, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Jumpstart for Kids or any animal shelter. These causes were close to Rick's heart, and your contribution will continue his legacy of compassion and generosity.

Celebration of Life to be held Feb, 17 from 2-4 pm at the Barrie Legion on Ferris Lane.
