BENNETT, Muriel Lenore

BENNETT, Muriel Lenore (née Cowan) passed away in her 97th year at the Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Orillia, Ontario.  Muriel was born in Agincourt, Ontario on  September 26, 1925.  In 1948 she married Bernard Bennett (1915 - 1995) and they had four children together. Muriel lived in Toronto (1948 - 1970), Barrie (1970 – 2014) and Orillia (2014 – 2021).  Muriel was predeceased by her husband and her parents, Gertrude Edith (Brown) Cowan and Robert Alexander “Alec” Cowan and her siblings, Robert Bruce Cowan (1926 - 2016) and Alice Mary (Cowan) Tapscott (1929 - 2021). Muriel is survived and lovingly remembered by her siblings John “Jack” Cowan (Marilyn), and Judith Gertrude (Cowan) Richards (James) and by her children, Diane Gail (Bennett) (Kajiura) Grzebinski (Bruce),  Gary Pearson Bennett (Maria), Gordon Gregory Bennett (Trish) and Guy Wayne Bennett (Pattie).  Muriel will be missed by her grandchildren, Kenji Kajiura (Heather), Kimio Kajiura (Pamela),  Rick Coelho (Michelle),  George Coelho (Lisa), Nancy (Coelho) Wyonch (Jeff),  Danielle (Bennett) Walsh (Tyler), and Michelle Bennett, and by her great-grandchildren, Kenzo Kajiura, Kaito  Kajiura, Anthony Coelho, Dominic Coelho, Sam Wyonch, Amy Wyonch, Matthew Coelho, Damion Walsh, Dorion Walsh, and Jackson Walsh.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Victoria House Retirement Residence, Orillia, for the care, kindness and support they unfailingly extended to Muriel during her many years there.  Also a very special thank you to the wonderful, caring nurses, doctors and staff of Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital who attended Muriel with great gentleness, skill and compassion during her final days. A one hour visitation at 12:00 p.m. followed by the funeral at 1:00 p.m. will be held at JENNETT FUNERAL & CREMATION CENTRE, 152 Bradford Street in Barrie on Sunday, November 14,  2021. Interment will be beside her late husband, Bern, at the Grenfel United Church Cemetery, Barrie, immediately following the service. Muriel was a faithful supporter of, and canvasser for, the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart and Stroke, or a charity of your choice, would honour her memory. Due to Covid restrictions, all attendees at the visitation and funeral service must provide proof of full vaccination status and one piece of photo identification. Masks and social distancing rules will be enforced.
