Fern passed away peacefully, at the age of 89, with the love of her family on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Grove Park Home, in Barrie. Fern leaves behind family who celebrate a remarkable life lived by her of kind-heartedness, gratitude, and inspiration. She will be fondly remembered by her eleven grandchildren Jason, Nathan, Sarah, Natalie, Luke, Joshua, Matthew, Nicholas, Jack, Andrew and Lindsay, and ten great-grandchildren Johnathan, Taryn, Tolkien, Islay, Lilly, Lucas, Charlie, Chloe, Mason, and Easton.

Fern was a compassionate mother and an indisputable, hard-working soul. She was a woman of great courage, integrity, empathy, and perseverance. Fern was always willing to listen, see the good in people, and extend a helping hand.

Fern touched many lives as a devoted nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital, in Barrie. She treasured her role caring for newborns and assisting their mothers in the case room, nursery, and on the floor...an impressive accomplishment for a young woman born in the rural community of Dunedin, in Nottawasaga Township.

Family and friends fondly recall the genuine happiness and grand fulfillment she derived from nursing, farming, gardening, quilting, cooking, baking, reading, music, and most importantly, spending quality time with her eight children and extended family.

Family and friends will be received at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street., Barrie, on Monday, August 19, 2019.
