On October 19th, 2022, Joan Elaine Beattie passed away peacefully at the age of 85. Born in Minden Ontario April 9,1937 first born to Ernest Hewitt and Nina Elizabeth Hewitt (nee Harrison). Joan grew up in the tiny hamlet establishing lifelong friendships, later to move to Toronto to chase her dreams in the bright lights of a big city. She soon met her future husband Alexander, whose parents so happened to move in 2 houses away from Joan’s on Water Street in Minden. A romance blossomed on their many trips back and forth from Toronto to Minden. Not long after, Joan and Alex were married and had two boy’s, Ian and Andrew. Joan put her business ambitions aside to dedicate herself to her family.

Joan along with being a dedicated wife and mother, also made time to be active within her community. She was always first to volunteer herself to help on any of her boy’s school trips, as well as volunteering to be a convener for the Richmond Hill Soccer Club for many years, manager or “The Orange Lady” on Andrew’s soccer teams, and member of the Richmond Hill Curling Board.

Joan had many loves and passions, but her fondest, and words alone cannot describe her love for her five Granddaughters Emma, Katherine, Cecilia, Alexa and Kira, as well as gaining her biggest confidant in her daughter in law Shannon. She finally had young ladies in her world that she could teach and pass on all the baking and knitting secrets that were given to her by her grandmother.

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Thursday November 3rd, 2022, at Basic Funerals and Cremation Choices, Jennett Memorial Centre, 152 Bradford Street, Barrie On, from 5pm to 8pm.
