Mardelle Norma Baier passed away peacefully in her 91st year at the IOOF care home in Barrie, Ontario on December 1, 2021.
Mardelle is the beloved wife of Rev. Delmar Baier and cherished mother of Maria (Paul) and Martin (Bua). She is much loved by her two 2 grandsons Aaron and Luc. Mardelle is also the beloved sister of Lavone Appleman, Bernice (Gary) Forney, Floyd (Irma) Meyer, Ralph (Linda) Meyer and Elaine (Ed) Brunmeier.
Mardelle was the first- born child of William and Sophie Meyer, born on the family farm in Washington County, Kansas on June 13, 1930.
Mardelle completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Kansas State University and Masters of Science degree at Michigan State University. While at Michigan State she met her future husband, Delmar Baier. After they were married, the couple settled in Waterloo, Ontario. They later lived in New Brunswick, Hamilton, Brantford, Niagara Falls and finally moved to Innisfil, Ontario to be closer to their daughter and family.
Mardelle had an interesting and varied career which included teaching at a high school, working as a home economist, teaching preschoolers at a Montessori school, and producing classified ads at a newspaper.
Mardelle was a person with a unique combination of deep kindness, strength and determination. Her patient, calm and grounded presence was always evident and appreciated by those around her. Her Christian faith was unshakeable and she lived her life true to Jesus’s teachings. Mardelle was always actively involved in her church community in various capacities from singing in the choir, to later in life, serving as a deaconess. Mardelle’s intelligence and strong social and political consciousness lead her to become actively involved in the peace movement and take on a leadership role with Project Ploughshares. In addition, she was involved in various campaigns in support of human rights, education and environmental protection. Mardelle was passionate advocate for early childhood development and supporting new mothers and served as a La Leche League leader.  Most significantly, she was a family person who was a caring and loyal wife to her husband and an excellent and loving mother to her children. Her laugh and beautiful smile will be with us always.
While God now has her in his keeping, we have her in our hearts forever.
