MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens claimed forward Colin White off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.

White went without a point through 11 games in Pittsburgh while producing five goals and five assists in 21 games with American Hockey League affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season.

The 27-year-old is on a one-year, US$775,000 contract. He joins his fourth NHL team after previous stints with the Ottawa Senators — who drafted him 21st overall in 2015 — and the Florida Panthers.

In a corresponding move, the Canadiens placed forward Brandon Gignac on waivers.

The 26-year-old Gignac has one goal in seven games with the NHL club and leads AHL affiliate Laval with 42 points in 43 games this season.

White will make his Montreal debut against his former team Thursday night with the Canadiens in Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins.
