Over the past few years, numerous highrise proposals have come before city council for approval.

It seems to be the way of the future as the provincial growth policy endorses the need to built up instead of out, which would limit urban sprawl.

There are several projects in various stages of approval and construction in Barrie, including at the iconic Five Points and another near the downtown Barrie Transit Terminal. Others have been proposed along Dunlop Street as well as at Bayfield and Sophia streets, all within a short walk of each other.

The most recent proposal to come before the public is a 15-storey condo at 217 Dunlop St. E., along the lakeshore heading out of downtown.

Which begs the question: How do you think this will affect downtown Barrie in the long term?
