The Collingwood Blues want to see your best rink game – backyard rinks, that is.

Through the month of Feburary, the Junior ‘A’ hockey team has been asking Simcoe County residents to send in photos of their backyard rinks for an ongoing contest.

Chris Potts, president of Collingwood Minor Hockey and liaison for the Collingwood Blues Junior Club, pitched the idea as a way to share the love of hockey and the outdoors as well as strengthen the bond between the junior and the minor clubs.

“Knowing how hard it is for kids to not have hockey or any sport for that matter, I really wanted to put this contest out to the community,” said Potts. “At this time, the kids and families need this excitement and fuel to stay positive.”

The contest requires entrants to submit a photo of their backyard rink to [email protected] by Tuesday, Feb. 16. There will be prizes for each category including family rink, most creative, pond rink, professional rink, and miniature rink.

The contest is free to enter and open to residents of Simcoe County.

“We have aimed for this event to be a fun way to get outside and get creative,” said Potts.
