U12 Colts cap off successful season with provincial title

Barrie boys stormed back in the championship final against Oakville to force overtime where Jack Whipp scored the 'golden goal'

The following was submitted of behalf of the Barrie Colts under-12 'BB' hockey team:

You could not have written a better script.

Coming off a dominant York-Simcoe championship, the Barrie Colts under-12 'BB' team had one more task, one more stop, one more mission — the road to the red hats, the all-Ontario title, in Windsor this past weekend.

And this crew did not disappoint.

Losing one of three games in the preliminary round to past tournament rivals, the Oakville Rangers, gave the Colts the fuel they needed for what would be the most intense finals rematch between Barrie and Oakville.

What started off rough, going down 2-0 after the first, the boys needed to dig deep and keep on going. Getting on the scoreboard in the second but still falling short 4-2 at the end of two periods, the Colts had one period left to make history, to give it everything they had, everything they were taught, to leave it all on the ice, and that is what they did, finishing the third period tied at 4-4.

A sudden-death overtime was written in the stars and ... pow! The Colts' Jack Whipp delivers the golden goal, handing the prestigious OMHA title to the U12 'BB' Barrie Colts.

The coaches were exceptionally proud of every part of this family, from parents, siblings, helpers, and every player in that dressing room. Enjoy the moment!

The team finished with a 22-1-1 record in the 2022-23 regular season and went 5-0 in the playoffs.

They won the Bardown Oakville Winter Classic, the 2022-23 York-Simcoe championship and capped it off with an Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) title.

The team roster includes: Landon Maisoneuve, Will Mutrie, Owen Poliziani, Colton Archer, Teagan Tiffin-Seminara, AJ Luczyk, Jack Hussey, Nolan McColl, Ben Sudsbury, Callum Roach, Jonathan Tallarigo, Logan Munshaw, Colton Proc, Eli Hardy-Plummer, Jack Whipp, Cooper Suggit, and Blake Barter.

The team staff includes coaches Wes Sudsbury, Mark Guergis, Lee Archer, Chris Maisoneuve, Lindsey Neil, Marcello Seminara, and James (Bones), with Christine McColl as manager.
