Essa Prep, a beacon of excellence in the world of women's basketball, is thrilled to announce the debut of its exciting new basketball team.

Essa Prep's program is designed to provide young women with a comprehensive training plan that empowers them to realize their full potential.
The program, led by seasoned experts, offers top-notch coaching, personalized attention and a supportive community. It creates an environment where female athletes can flourish, whether they aspire to play at the college level or dream of making a lasting impact on the game.
Sharon Butler, the founder of Essa Basketball Academy, expressed her enthusiasm for this new venture: "At Essa Prep, we take a realistic approach to create the next generation of leaders. We believe that emotional intelligence, self-confidence, and effective communication are critical skills in today's world. Our program focuses on athletic development and personal growth, instilling a sense of personal responsibility, teamwork, and a commitment to contributing to the community."
The team at Essa Prep is not only dedicated to developing outstanding athletes, but also to providing a world-class academic experience. Student-athletes will attend Innisdale Secondary School (ISS), where they can benefit from a collaborative environment with school administration. The program ensures that student-athletes complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and maintain NCAA eligibility while maintaining GPA expectations.
Academics are a top priority, with designated study time daily, tutors and individual progress reporting. The program also offers ACT or SAT exam preparation and post-secondary pathways counselling, helping student-athletes succeed in both academics and athletics.
Michele Bélanger and Jackie Edwards, renowned figures in female athletics, support Essa Prep as part of the advisory team. With their years of knowledge and experience in the female realm, Essa Prep welcomes their valuable contributions.
Michele Bélanger is a Canadian Basketball Hall of Famer with an impressive coaching career and a rich sports history.
Jackie Edwards, known as the "Mother of Aaliyah Edwards," brings a unique perspective as a parent, former athlete and coach.
Essa Prep's first home game is scheduled for Nov. 2, 2023, at 5 p.m. at Innisdale Secondary School. The team will face off against Redmond Basketball, and the event promises to be an exhilarating showcase of talent and dedication.
"We are excited to embark on this journey with our student-athletes as they aim to make their mark in the world of basketball," said coach Sharon Butler. "Essa Prep is not just about basketball; it's about shaping the next generation of leaders ready to take on any challenge that comes their way."
