Stroud bonspiel raises over $1,700 for Barrie women's shelter

Organizers say the ladies played three games and enjoyed a day of friendship with others while also helping the local shelter

The Stroud Curling Club Ladies Diva Spiel was held Feb. 4 with 40 area curlers taking part to help a good cause.

Organizers say the ladies played three games and enjoyed a day of friendship with others to benefit the Woman and Children's Shelter of Barrie.

This has been an annual event for four years that was interrupted for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but club officials say they are happy to be back on track.

This year, they raised $1,730 as all proceeds from the Diva Bonspiel were donated directly to the Women and Children's Shelter of Barrie. There was also a substantial donation in personal care, and other tangible items that are needed for daily needs.

Organizers thanked all of the participants and people who donated to the event.
