Kitchener Rangers forward Carson Rehkopf, who hails from Utopia in the Barrie area, has been named OHL player of the week.

Kitchener Rangers forward Carson Rehkopf, who grew up in nearby Utopia and played his minor hockey in Barrie, has been Ontario Hockey League player of the week for the second time this season.

The Seattle Kraken prospect recorded four goals and five assists for nine points in three games as the Rangers collected four points over the weekend.

The 19-year-old leads the league in goals with 47.

The player-of-the-week honour was announced Monday afternoon for the week of regular-season games ending Sunday, Feb. 25.

Rehkopf had a strong start to the week on Feb. 19 with a pair of goals and an assist to earn first-star honours as the Rangers defeated the Peterborough Petes, 6-2.

The six-foot-one, 196-pound centre then had a career-high six-point performance on Friday, tallying a pair of goals and four assists to once again earn first-star honours in a 7-3 victory over the Sarnia Sting.

The Rangers struggled to find the scoresheet on Sunday, closing out the weekend with a 3-0 loss to the Soo Greyhounds.

Rehkopf also ranks third among point producers with 47 goals and 37 assists for 84 points over 50 games played this season.

He has recorded 176 points (95-81-176) in 183 career OHL regular-season games with the Rangers after being chosen 17th overall by the club in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection.

Rehkopf was Seattle’s second-round pick (50th overall) in the 2023 NHL Draft.

He was previously named player of the week for Oct. 9-15.

Also considered for this week's award was Kingston Frontenacs forward Linus Hemstrom, who had nine points (4G, 5A) in four games including a hat trick on Sunday while Sudbury Wolves winger David Goyette, another Seattle Kraken prospect, put up seven points (4G, 3A) in three contests.

Meanwhile, Michael Simpson of the London Knights was named OHL goaltender of the week for the second time this season, playing to a 2-0 record including a shutout, along with a 1.00 goals-against average and .956 save percentage.
