Siyul (Bella) Back and Gavin Mahoney triumphed at the Novice Canadian Championships, delivering outstanding performances that clinched them the title of Canadian novice pairs champions.
Under the expert guidance of coaches Janice Morgan and Ryan Arnold, this dynamic duo showcased their personal best, captivating audiences and judges alike. The team’s journey to success is further buoyed by the unwavering support of Mitch Islam, Lee Barkell, and Kelly Johnson.
Reflecting on their stellar achievement, Gavin Mahoney shared, “We’ve been working really hard all season and it’s nice that it has finally paid off … All the elements were solid, clean, clear,” echoing the qualities of dedication and perseverance that define their pursuit of excellence.
In a testament to the depth of talent at the championships, after placing second in the rhythm dances, Rachel Martins and Juel Kowalczyk secured a commendable fourth place in ice dance. Despite their relatively short time in the competitive arena, their performance left spectators in awe. Coached by Mariposa’s ice dance team: Mitchell Islam, David Islam, Kelly Johnson and James Callan.
“With less than seven months under their belts, what these two have accomplished in such a short time is incredible, and has us all very excited for the future,” remarked Mitch Islam, highlighting the remarkable progress and potential of Martins and Kowalczyk.
The Novice Canadian Championships not only celebrate the achievements of seasoned competitors but also serve as a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills and set the stage for a promising future in the world of figure skating.
