GEORGIAN GRIZZLIES

The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s volleyball teams hosted the East-West Volleyball Challenge on Friday and Saturday at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
The invitational featured four teams on each of the men’s and women’s sides.
The Grizzlies men’s team were impressive in their two games. They opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over the Boreal Viperes with set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-17.
They followed that with another strong victory defeating the Cambrian Golden Shield on Saturday afternoon 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-11).
Georgian’s women’s team had a solid start to the tournament as they defeated Boreal 3-1 with set scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18).
In Saturday’s game, the Grizzlies fell behind as they dropped the first two sets before rallying back to eventually force a fifth set tiebreak.
The Grizzlies came up short in the end despite their valiant effort falling 3-2 from set scores of 25-14, 25-17, 22-25, 12-25 and 15-7.
Georgian’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams open their OCAA regular season schedule on Friday, Oct. 18 when the Grizzlies host the Fleming Knights at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
Tickets to all regular season home games are available at the doors for $5 each.
