Panthers, Majors split games

LONDON — The London Majors finally completed their home opener, but it ended the same way things were left three weeks ago.

The Majors trailed Kitchener 5-4 in the top of the fifth inning May 20 when a suspected gas leak resulted in the game being suspended. It picked up Friday before the teams’ scheduled game at Labatt Park, and the Panthers won 11-10.

Keegan Marsden went two-for-three with three RBI and two runs for the Panthers. Reece Reading also drove in three, while Liam Wilson had a pair of RBI. Lead-off hitter Jett Jarvis went three-for-five with two runs, Stephen Whalen had two hits and two runs, and Robbie Gauthier singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored three times.

Christian Hauck (2-0) struck out 10 over seven innings for the win. He allowed six runs on 11 hits and two walks. David Bruinsma earned his first save, giving up two runs (one earned) in the ninth on three hits with two strikeouts.

For London, Taylor Wright went four-for-five with two solo home runs. He also scored three times. Starling Joseph singled, homered and drove in two, Keith Kandel had four hits, two RBI and a run, Robert Mullen drove in a pair and Austin Wilkie had an RBI.

Pedro De Los Santos (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on three hits over 1.2 innings. He walked two and struck out two.

In the regularly scheduled game, London scored 11 runs in the fourth on their way to a 16-0 win.

Cleveland Brownlee had three hits, including two home runs, and seven RBI. Kieran Bowles drove in three, Phil Whelan had a pair of RBI, Jakob Newton went three-for-four with three runs and an RBI and Gibson Krzeminski drove in two and scored three times. Mullen and Starling Joseph each had an RBI.

Jose Arias went six innings, scattering two hits and two walks while striking out 10.

Adam Robertson took the loss, giving up four runs on four hits in the first inning. He walked two and struck out one.

Offensively, Blake Jacklin, Andy Leader and Simon Grinberg were the only Panthers’ players to register a hit.

Errors don’t cost Leafs against Red Sox

BRANTFORD — Six errors didn’t cost Toronto Friday in Brantford.

Blake Simpson went three-for-five with two runs and an RBI, Grant Tamane had three hits and two runs, Greg Carrington singled twice, scored twice and had an RBI, Justin Marra drove in two, Luca Boscarino had two hits and two RBI, while Jordan Castaldo, Jose Vinicio, Aidan McAskie and Brady Cerkowynk all had an RBI.

Marek Deska (1-0) went five innings for the win. He gave up an unearned run on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Bennett Moore (0-3) took the loss, allowing five runs on three hits with seven walks and a strikeout.

At the plate, Brantford’s Nolan Gallagher had two of the Red Sox’s five hits. Spencer Jamieson and Shamil Ubiera scored Brantford’s runs.
