Three members of the Barrie Speed Skating Club have qualified for Canada Youth Short Track Championship East.

This national level competition is for youth aged 11 to 13 years old.

Caitlin, Myles and Kelsey (all Simcoe County District School Board students, but whose last names were not provided by the club) will be in Rimouski, Que., from March 29 to 31 competing against skaters from Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland.

Their coach, Benton McNico, will be there as well coaching Team Ontario.

The skaters will participate in a "camp day" on the first day with on-ice sessions and off-ice activities that include a respect-in-sport presentation, a social game and a cognitive mental exercise.

The first day of competition will have five races and relay. The second day of competition will have four races and relay. The local trio has been training all year, skating two to four times a week, and competing in elite and provincial level meets.
