The sixth annual ‘Move to Give’ event will be hosted by the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka on April 4, 2020. The goal of the event is to raise over $100,000 in an effort to build healthier communities, inspire active living and help community members access YMCA programs, who couldn’t otherwise afford it. Move to Give will take place simultaneously in eight YMCAs within our region: Barrie, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia and Parry Sound. From yoga to massive indoor cycling sessions, swimming challenges, fire truck pulls and more— participants will have the opportunity to challenge themselves physically while giving back to their community.

To kick-start Move to Give, YMCA child care and before and after school programs across Simcoe/Muskoka will host Moving and Grooving on Wednesday, March 4. Through this event, children and their families will have the opportunity to raise funds to support their communities.

“This fundraiser will directly impact the lives of children, youth, adults and families living in our communities,” says Rob Armstrong, CEO, YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. “Over the past five years, this event has raised over $500,000 and brought together thousands of people across Simcoe/Muskoka – all working towards achieving the same goal of building healthier communities. Without this incredible support, we would not be able to provide financial assistance to thousands of members each year.”

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka provides a wide variety of programs and services that offer invaluable resources to communities throughout Simcoe County, Muskoka and Parry Sound. Whether it be through health and fitness programs, swimming lessons, rehabilitation programs, licensed child care, camps, youth outreach programs, employment and literacy services, immigrant services and leadership training – Y programs inspire people to reach their full potential. Last year thousands of individuals and families were able to access the Y in their community as a result of the over one million dollars the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka provided in financial assistance.

“We recognize that a healthy and vibrant community starts with healthy and vibrant people. At this year’s event, we’re asking community members and businesses to ‘Move to Give’ everyone an equal opportunity to access all of these incredible YMCA programs and ultimately, lead a healthier life,” says Armstrong.

All members of the community and local businesses are invited to participate in Move to Give and are encouraged to raise pledges. For more information about the event, fundraising tools, corporate sponsorship opportunities, and to register for Move to Give, please visit www.movetogive.ca.
