The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is excited to reintroduce their Youth Leaders program, a vital component of their innovative "Y Beyond Walls" initiative aimed at promoting inclusivity and accessibility within the community.

The program is taking place at the YMCA Child Care - Georgian College in Barrie, aligning with the YMCA's commitment to fostering leadership skills among youth.

Led by qualified YMCA staff and dedicated volunteers, the Youth Leaders program is designed for students in Grades 7-8. Through engaging games and challenges, the program focuses on developing essential leadership skills, boosting confidence, and nurturing teamwork abilities.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore volunteer opportunities and actively contribute to the development of local youth initiatives. Importantly, this program is free for all participants and does not require a YMCA membership, ensuring accessibility for all youth in the community.

"A key focus of our strategic plan is to strengthen the legacy of our Y for future generations and connect people to meaningful experiences where everyone belongs. The Youth Leaders program exemplifies our commitment to this cause, empowering young individuals to flourish as future leaders and changemakers. Through this initiative, we invest in the personal growth and development of our youth, strengthening our community with skilled, socially conscious leaders,” said Jill Tettmann, CEO of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.

The "Y Beyond Walls" initiative, encompassing the Youth Leaders program, aligns with the YMCA's broader goal of providing traditional YMCA programming in new, flexible, and inclusive ways.
